In Edgar Allen Poe's short story 'Ligeia', the narrator's love interest is described as having a big forehead and of being so beautiful that "no maiden face ever equalled her". He also writes that her beauty "was the radiance of an opium-dream - an airy and spirit-lifting vision more wildly divine than the phantasies which hovered about the slumbering souls of the daughters of Delos."
